EU's Mandatory ADAS Sensor Inspection Law in 2027

Jul 06, 2026

According to China's Chinatown in Italy: The EU car inspection is getting a major revamp: ADAS systems will be included in the checks, and electric cars will be a focus! European vehicle inspection rules are set to see their biggest update in over a decade. The EU is pushing a comprehensive regulatory reform aimed at making periodic technical inspections (ITV) better suited to today's car technology. The new inspection rules will, for the first time, include checks on advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), key components like electric vehicle batteries, and will also tackle odometer fraud.

ADAS systems added to the inspection list, the car's 'digital brain' undergoes its first official check-up. The key change in the new rules is the expanded inspection content. Under current regulations, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are not mandatory in regular annual inspections. The new rules will require regular checks of ADAS systems, including but not limited to airbags, automatic emergency braking systems, and other critical safety devices. Electronic equipment like sensors, cameras, and radar will also undergo functional checks.
